Double Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington suffered a miscarriage at 12 weeks into her being pregnant and underwent emergency surgical procedure, the now-retired British swimmer stated on social media.

Adlington, who received the 400 and 800 metres freestyle titles on the 2008 Beijing Olympics, shared the information in an Instagram submit on Saturday with a photograph of her mendacity in a hospital mattress with a cup of tea and an IV line behind her hand.

“On Tuesday me and Andy (her husband) went to hospital for our 12 week scan solely to find we’ve had a miscarriage which resulted in emergency surgical procedure,” Adlington stated.

“I managed to depart hospital Thursday solely to be readmitted Friday. After a day of treating sepsis, a kidney an infection and a fever I’m slowly on the mend. Lengthy solution to go however I’m in the suitable place.

Adlington has two kids - a seven-year-old daughter from her earlier marriage to fellow swimmer Harry Wants and a one-year-old son with husband Andy Parsons.
