Novak Djokovic granted visa to play in 2023 Australian Open, report native media

Novak Djokovic has been granted a visa to play within the Australian Open in January, Guardian Australia and state broadcaster ABC reported on Tuesday.

Djokovic, who's Serbian, was deported from Australia within the leadup to the Grand Slam in January after he declined to be vaccinated. The previous world No. 1 was initially barred from the nation till 2025.

The ABC stated it had confirmed Immigration Minister Andrew Giles had overturned that ban, permitting Djokovic to compete.

A spokesperson for Australia’s immigration ministry declined to touch upon the stories.

Australian Open event director Craig Tiley stated this month that Djokovic could be welcome in January if he might get a visa, however that Tennis Australia was unable to foyer on his behalf.

Australia in July scrapped a rule that required worldwide vacationers to declare their COVID vaccination standing, and Djokovic stated in October he had obtained “optimistic indicators” concerning the standing of efforts to overturn his ban.
