Former India captain and Olympian Dilip Tirkey on Sunday filed his nomination for the put up of Hockey India (HI) president.
After submitting his nomination papers, Tirkey stated his intention is to take the game to higher heights. “At present, I've filed my nomination papers for Hockey India president’s put up. I filed my nomination on behalf of Hockey Affiliation of Odisha of which I'm at the moment the president,” Tirkey instructed PTI.
“Hockey gave me so much. As a participant I've performed hockey for the nation for a substantial period of time and after retiremen, I've been working for the event of the game in Odisha. So I felt being within the Nationwide hockey physique I can work extra for the sport, I can take the sport to higher heights.”
Tirkey exuded confidence of popping out with flying colors within the upcoming polls. “I've been in talks with a number of states. All the NorthEast is with me. Requested about his targets if elected as HI chief, Tirkey stated: “I wish to strengthen the grassroot program. The 44-year-old Tirkey, a former full-back, was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha as one of many three Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidates.
